Is this ballerina really too fat to play the Sugar Plum Fairy?
leading ballet critic Alastair MaCaulay said Ringer 'looked as if she'd eaten one sugarplum too many.'

" She Does Have Rather Massive Powerful Thighs ! "

A leading ballerina who was criticised for being too fat has hit back about her weight.

Jenifer Ringer, cast as the Sugar Plum Fairy for the New York City Ballet production of The Nutcracker, said on NBC's Today show that her body is part of her 'art form' and is there to be criticised.

She refused to ask for an apology about a New York Times review that singled out her size.

If she is fat, then ya'll better start referring to me as Fat Bastard from now on. That is so ridiculous!

She's fine. If she looked like Rosie, fire her, otherwise, mew.

I thought this thread was going to be about Oprah.

She's fine. The ballet world is full of Balanchine groupies who can't get his ballet body type out of their minds.

She does have a larger body than most prima ballerinas I've known. But I wouldn't call her "big" or "large". I'm glad the NYC Ballet is hiring a bit more "non-traditional" dancers. She looks like a beautiful dancer to me. And she has an incredibly healthy attitude about her weight/size. Good for her.
