Is Obama an enlightened being?
Spiritual wise ones say: This sure ain't no ordinary politician. You buying it?
By Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist
I find I'm having this discussion, this weird little debate, more and more, with colleagues, with readers, with liberals and moderates and miserable, deeply depressed Republicans and spiritually amped persons of all shapes and stripes and I'm having it in particular with those who seem confused, angry, unsure, thoroughly nonplussed, as they all ask me the same thing: What the hell's the big deal about Obama?
I, of course, have an answer. Sort of....
Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.
The unusual thing is, true Lightworkers almost never appear on such a brutal, spiritually demeaning stage as national politics. This is why Obama is so rare. And this why he is so often compared to Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., to those leaders in our culture whose stirring vibrations still resonate throughout our short history....Last edited by Elspeth; 06-06-2008 at 12:22 PM. It's Morford and he's flat out insane (also a terrible writer). You've got to give him credit though, he's really stretched his own envelope by writing about "spiritual" stuff instead of discussing which lube works best in transgendered bisexual three-ways.

Yeah, but what worries me is that this kind of talk is not just Morford. You know there are a lot of New Agers are thinking this way if Morford is writing about it. Add this to the black community who thinks Obama is going to lead them to the promised land and we've got a lot of irrationality about.

Meh, He's marginally better than average at speech giving.
He is well above average in saying much about nothing in a well-packaged delivery.
He is a known associate of terrorists, racist-bigots and socialist-marxist liberals.
He is an avowed liberal embracer of failed liberal ideas.
He wants to be President of ALL US citizens yet he was a member of a US hating Church FOR 20 YEARS.
He claims to be a Christian yet his name is Barrack Hussein Obama.
He has done nothing as the junior Senator from his State.
What's not to like or trust about him?

I feel that once a black fella has referred to white foks as "honky paleface devil white-trash cracker redneck Caspers," he's abdicated the right to get upset about the "N" word. But that's just me. -- Jim Goad

Actually Clinton did pretty well speaking too. He had the Bubba appeal and was very skilled at talking out of both sides of his mouth without ever really committing to anything. I'm not a big Clinton fan but I do respect his abilities as a politician. (Which seem to have faded recently.)
Obama's "perfect" oratory skills may turn off some working class voters. Who knows though?
