I buy one box of organic Grape-Nuts analog and about a half pound of steel-cut oats. I dump it into a big bowl and chop up the dried fruit and add the seeds. I mix it up and put it in a storage container.

Seriously, this lasts me about 4 months.

sounds similar to granola...I may stop by Whole Foods this weekend and try to make my own. Barefoot Contessa has a good recipe.

I have problems with too much sugar (hypoglycemic or so the Whitecoat says) so this has no honey or other "sticky" stuff. It's just dry but tasty when mixed with yogurt.

I always mix any cereal with yogurt. It tastes so much better than with milk.

It runs in my family also, why I'm careful with sugar. A doc down here gave me a real fright. He said that I was prediabetic. I later found out that he was looking at another patients' chart.

All my "numbers" were OK. He really gave me a scare.

I'm a first degree relative from an out of control, outrageous diabetic. While I don't have a sweet tooth, I do curb the carbs. That's the real bitch-kitty for diabetes. Or anybody watching their weight, really.
