Republicans in the State Senate prepared to approve Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill today, but at the last minute, the Democrats in the Senate chose not to show up for the session, leaving the chamber without a quorum and putting the proposal in at least temporary limbo.
Twenty Senators are needed to be present to achieve a quorum. All 19 of the Republicans attended today’s 11 a.m. session. None of the Democrats attended.
Sources said the Democrats left the building before the Senate’s sergeant at arms was dispatched to look for them. The gallery in the Senate chamber erupted in applause when it was announced the quorom was not achieved.
NBC News 15 reported that the Democratic Senators have left the state.
