When it comes to the end of the world, the Jehovah's Witnesses are not exactly known for being eternal optimists. They wrongly predicted doomsdays in 1874, 1881, 1914, 1920...and countless times since. Their most recent date to come and go without a bang was 1994.

There is a special hole somewhere in hell for the Jehovah's Nitwits.

When I was five years old, the JW had predicted the End, on September 21 1963 if I remember correctly. My best friend and I had recently learned to read. The problem was, that no one bothered to tell us that the Jehovah's Witnesses are a bunch of crackpots. So we waited all day for The End.

Oddly, I never made the association between the doomsaying and another episode when my grandmother got very angry with me for letting the JW woman (dragging a child of course) into the house. My grandmother was a stroke victim and quite thin. I had never seen a lady order what I had assumed was a lady out of her house before. I was stunned.

I knew exactly one JW family growing up. They were nice enough although the birthday/holiday thing was a little hard on their kids. They were utterly outnumbered by LDS, Pentecostals, Baptists, and Church of Christ types, though.

We have a bunch of them here. They are an odd sort.
I had one working for me a couple of years ago, when
her mother died. Me and another woman from our dept
went to support her at the funeral at their Kingdom Hall.
It was the first time I'd ever attended any kind of JW
event. Rather strange and odd.
