Horowitz lets her have it.

She was so sure her superior intellect would make her an instant hero.
A complete lack of self respect and total lack of the awareness of her self owned public humiliation.
she doesn't realize if she lived in the ME she'd shed those rags and run for her life !!!!
I don't understand how any american woman would willingly convert to Islam and wear that ugly crap.
I think it's a reaction to the sexual saturation of this society. Feminism is an empty philisophy, a parody of itself. It preaches sexual liberation, which STILL puts women in the hands of men as playthings. They are told Islam is a religion that values them, respects them and will protect them; all the things that this society has failed to do with women.
And... they believe it.

Bingo. Women are attracted to high-demand faiths for exactly those reasons. Islam assures women that their natural interests involving home, family, and good behavior are valid and, in fact, laudable. Islam reaffirms a woman's natural understanding that men view women as sexual amusements AND it tells them how to circumvent that issue. Islam provides a moral framework that is not all "gray" and that is appealing to many women - particularly mothers.
Mainline Christianity has dropped the ball on this.
I knew I made sense to someone. I had the same mental journey when I watched a college acquaintance convert to Islam. I really thought about the pros and cons of such a life-shattering decision. For a day, I came close. VERY close. It had a partial appeal to me, but not a full one because my maternal/homemaker instinct isn't present and I tend to use men the same way men use women, maybe it's a little extra testosterone, I don't know. What kept me from changing my mind was I just didn't trust the pitch. It was made to be wayy too ideal and I knew that in practice, it was never going to be that awesome.

You always make sense to me, baby. ;)
I've known exactly 2 female converts. Both met men in college and married them. Neither are married today. One had a hellacious child custody issue but the other did not.
Both were in love and both fell in love with the culture they knew about. They fell out of love with the culture they didn't know about. Much the same can happen within Christian or Jewish frameworks.
The difference is that Muslim culture is about where Christian or Jewish culture was 500 years ago. It's a big leap for a 21st century gal. Even the Amish and Hutterites are not so regressive.
Women could get the same structure, validation, and support from Christian or Jewish faiths today but they are so........uncool. There's nothing exotic about rejecting clothes at the Gap that are too form-fitting or revealing. There's no social validation about avoiding porn or drunkenness or promiscuity because your Bible group advises against it. You don't get any style points for saying grace in public.
