Check out today's featured dog, the Norwegian Lundehund. Wow, it's really a rare breed, only 250 in the US, 1500 worldwide. They're a dog without a job. They're 6 toed and very agile, bred to hunt puffins. Problem is, puffins are now an endangered species and hunting them is prohibited. Poor lundehunds.

Just a hint---go to today's trivia and after you answer the doggie trivia question (the answer is Old Dog Haven), further click to the link for the pictures and story of the wonderful people who started a rescue group in Washington State for old dogs.
Read the heart warming story, then check out the right hand column. There you should find a link where you can give your email address. You'll receive a coupon for 2 cans of Halo Spot Stew. That stuff is expensive dog food. The doggies love it. It's worth the good read and to get the free stuff. I think they carry it at Petco and Whole Foods.

Check out today's quiz---the doggie quiz. Follow the link from the correct doggie answer to a wonderful group in Oregon that rescues disabled and/or behaviorally challenged pooches. They have a good fund-raiser that might be of interest. You can get a personalized decal of your individual pet, with 100% of the proceeds going to support the group's work.
A playful, but blind Chihuahua mix puppy. A frightened, snappish Jack Russell-Toy Fox Terrier mix. An emaciated German Shepherd Dog pup needing heart surgery. Though differing in their breed makeups and problems, Reuben, Franzi, and Imann, respectively, shared dismal prospects for being cared for and adopted from the crowded shelters where they landed. Fortunately, help was just a phone call away.
"The shelters call us for any animal that's disabled, injured, traumatized, or emotionally failing in the shelter environment," says Heather Hines, founder and director of Indigo Rescue in Beaverton, Ore. "These pets are basically unadoptable because they don't show well, or the shelters don't have the resources to take care of them."
Upon taking these challenging cases under its wing, the nonprofit rescue provides treatment and rehabilitation, training, foster care, and — ultimately and after careful screening — a loving new home.
"We half-jokingly refer to ourselves as the Match.com of people and pets, because we're all about making compatible matches,'' Hines says.
However, helping pets with expensive medical issues or in need of behavioral work comes with hefty costs. Started in 1998 and named in honor of Hines' beloved feline friend, the fledgling rescue nearly floundered as she and fellow volunteers struggled to raise enough money to aid a tidal wave of damaged, discarded pets.
When a generous bequest fell into their laps nearly six years ago, "We talked about what we should do," Hines recalls. "Do we squander it on our veterinary bills and financial woes or spend it on something to finance our rescue efforts?"

I donated actual dog food to the shelter I got Delia from. I had some leftover senior dog food and some Alpo I bought when I was desperate to get Katie to eat, and donated it.

We have a no kill facility close to us. It was founded by the guy's mother to take in pets of owners that had passed. I either do online donations or drop off food, they also have a pretty good thrift shop. They end up with a lot of stuff, including appliances from our local Sears store when people buy new appliances and need the old ones hauled off, usually they still work. Or families just need to get rid of things and donate it all to the shelter.
It's was hard to drive by for a while as I feel in love with a lab named Pickles. I ended up sponsoring him online after stopping in to look at what they had. Now I realize I just don't have time to properly care for a pet right now.
