Donald Trump to President Obama: Go to Japan!

By MAGGIE HABERMAN | 3/17/11 8:06 PM EDT Updated: 3/17/11 8:16 PM EDT

The Donald has a message for the president — get on a plane to Tokyo, stat!

Donald Trump, who says he's seriously considering a run for president in 2012, said it would be "brilliant" for President Obama to get on a plane to Japan and "not be on the golf course."

The developer made the comments in an interview with CNBC's Larry Kudlow, the first part of which aired Thursday evening.

"Wouldn't that be brilliant? Go over there and tell them, `We're here to help. We're here to do something,' " Trump said. "Not be on the golf course."

He added that an upcoming trip to Brazil that the president will be making isn't "the right choice now. You can't have the president of the United States working on his nine iron shots when Japan is potentially, I mean, one of the great problems ever. So I think maybe the concept — you're asking what should he do..the concept of him getting on that plane and flying over for a two-hour visit would be brilliant, in my opinion."

If not go, he should have had an Oval Office Address about it. Unless Obama wants things to get bad enough for us to think voting Trump in can't be any worse.

I don't know if it's necessarily safe for the president to go to Tokoyo right now. Not just because of potential radiation issues, but because they just had an earthquake and a tsunami. Their police and security might not currently be up to the standard needed to secure a presidential visit.

    That's a good point.

Even if it were stable I don't think Obama should go. Biden should but not the President.

I don't want Trump in office, but a more conservative style Trump would be nice.

But on his message to Obama, we all know Obama is too busy with his schedule right now. The Golf courses are just now starting to open up in his area.

Don't the Japanese already have enough troubles with natural disasters?
Why would they want a man made one as well?

Going to Japan, with a security entourage and massive support staff, is the last thing that the people of Japan need. It would be pointless grandstanding. But, there is no reason that Obama couldn't taken time from his busy schedule of golf, March Madness and parties to get in front of his teleprompter and read a speech about what America is doing to assist the Japanese and to review vulnerabilities here. That would be leadership, or at least the pretence of it, but I guess that even that is beyond this administration.
