Salvation Army to name one, there are many smaller and lesser organizations that do help without government aid. Charities don't only collect at Christmas either, that's when they get the most attention. Most food banks, because of the economy, are in desparate need but still continue to help the less fortunate day in and day out.
Are these comfortable situations? No, nor are they meant to be. They are there as safety nets, and for some life-lessons....
Wanna try again? :pGovernment is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.

We could say they are spending like drunken sailors. That would be unfair to drunken sailors, they're spending their OWN money.

Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.

I love how typical liberals can find fault with charity or for that matter any Christian venture yet the islamo-fascists can do no wrong.
Would you prefer they didn't give food out at Christmas? For your liberal education (in doubt), there is a Christian  food pantry in my county that feeds nearly 500 families a month. Must be an extended Christmas.Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.

Bullshit. People survived before the government under FDR got involved in all these give away programs. You had to root hog or die; charities and churches did pick up the slack for the poor.
People like you are so fucking stupid. My dad lived thru the depression. He could not go to high school because his dad was too poor to BUY the books. It was only after the Kingfish came into office that books were given free of charge. We have become a nation of people looking for handouts. Democratic politicians want to give more to the lazy and mothers with bastard children which just creates a never ending cycle of poverty and crime.

Because that's not how this country was set up from the beginning.
Do we really want an increase of people on the streets asking people for money?
I find the idea of complete capitalism with no safety net to be scary.
You're a socialist Liberal...of course Capitalism and freedom scares you.
