TxRadioGuy can fill you in on this one.
He was in The Old Guard until just recently.
The 3rd United States Infantry Regiment is a regiment of the United States Army. It currently has three active battalions, and is readily identified by its nickname, The Old Guard, as well as Escort to the President. The regimental motto is Noli Me Tangere (from Latin: - Touch me Not). The regiment is a major unit of the Military District of Washington (MDW).The regiment is the oldest active unit of infantry in the Army, having been first organized as the First American Regiment in 1784.
The Old Guard is responsible for guarding the Tomb Of The Unknown. That is one of the big tourist stops in D.C.
We also provide soldiers to give tours at the Pentagon.
Plus this time of year there is Twilight Tattoo as well at Ft. McNair.
Where else are you going where TOG is at?
There is a lot of history with them. Going all the way back to the 1848 War with Mexico. As the Army's Honor Guard element in D.C. we are at pretty much every official function and ceremony.
I believe the museum on Ft. Myer should be re-opened by now as well. I was there from 2006-10. Had some long days...but it's a once in a lifetime experience.
