    They think that God intended humankind to eat nothing but vegetables like in the garden of eden and that sin brought the eating of meat into the world.

    Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;
    The difference between pigs and people is that when they tell you you're cured it isn't a good thing.

    It makes more sense in the King James.

    meh - lousy excuse if you ask me since kosher butchers are available in any city of any substantial size.

    King James Version
    Genesis 1:29
    And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

    says the same thing.

    SDA's are just as much an odd mix as the general public, there are liberal and conservative SDA, that moron from Texas, Shelia Jackson Lee is SDA, while the Chaplain of the Senate is SDA, Rear Admiral (ret) Barry Black (not sure about his politics but he spent 27 years in the Military).

    If you look at the largest groups of oldest living people in the world, Loma Linda, CA is one of them. There is a large number of Adventist there, including one the best medical centers/colleges in the country. Adventist have been at the forefront of medicine for over a hundred years (they were against smoking tobacco at a time when Doctors were prescribing as a cure for various lung issues).

    I have an uncle that owns a medical center in Loma Linda, my dads side of the family helped start that whole thing.

    Because everyone knows that vegetarianism is as related to conservatism as is having a ceiling fan in your house.

    My friend in Afghanistan is one...in fact she leans close to vegan. She's been vegetarian since she was about 10 years old. Mostly it's because she is opposed to killing animals, but there are also some health considerations.

    However, she has started to eat some seafood for protein, again, for health reasons.

    I can respect her choices because she's pretty consistent (no leather products, no skin care products that test on animals or use animal products, etc.) and if you met her and were eating a giant bloody steak you would never know that she is a vegan/vegetarian as she doesn't try to convince you that you should be one. She just does her own thing and as long as you don't bug her about her beliefs she won't bug you about yours.

    I think, though, that she's starting to have some issues in that she's not getting all the right nutrients out of a veggie based diet and that is why she's starting to add some animal based proteins. She can't stand the smell of beef, so I'm not certain that she'll be able to overcome that one.
