Because for some reason this team lost it's heart. Remember last year? Making the playoffs on the final day in a shoot out no less, then beating the Devils in the 1st round only to fall behind 3-0 to Boston and then to come back and not only win the series, but win game 7 after trailing 3-0 in that game. Then beating Montreal, who themselves had a miracle playoffs, and we made the finals, gave Chicago a great series but we lost. Played our hearts out but still lost. This season, looked like no one was going to touch us until the end of February when the wheels came off. Hell, we can't even beat the Thrashers let alone a playoff team. 4 and out.

I don't think heart is the problem with Philly but motivation. They pretty much guaranteed themselves the 1, 2 or the 4 (and probably they assumed the 1 or 2 once Crosby and Malkin went down) that they weren't playing as hard. Laviolette will have to turn them back on again now.
