We all know times are tough in the newspaper industry but they must be particularly hard for the New York Times, as evidenced by yesterday’s free umbrella give away just outside Union Station in Washington, D.C. Shortly after 1 p.m. the Times set up a booth outside one of the D.C. area’s busiest subway stations to pitch subscriptions to the newspaper for 50% off for 13 weeks plus a special bonus of a free umbrella which was pretty handy on a rainy day.
