I've used free weights, machines, bands, etc. You're right, hard work is the best exercise but most cubicle rats can't get enough. I certainly can't. I use a super slow protocol because I hate unproductive exercise and this let's me get the benefit of much more lifting in a small amount of time.
It's basically a type of HIIT.
This shake thing is probably not much more effective that any routine using a light weight. It just feels a lot weirder.
