UNITED NATIONS — The UN's chief human rights official led calls by rights activist organizations on Tuesday for Washington to explain whether U.S. forces lawfully killed Osama bin Laden.

The request by Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, came even as the world body continues to falter over its multi-year bid to define terrorism... On the U.S. action in Pakistan Sunday, Pillay agreed that bin Laden was a "very dangerous man" ... Well lets look at it. Assassinations are bad ideas, you dont want countries running around killing other countries' heads of state, high profile members of government or members of the aristocracy. Its just an ugly game.

However its fairly obvious OBL was an enemy combatant, so (even though we refuse to ratify the Rome Statute) it would be worth it to send it to the ICC. Cover up all the loose ends on this thing, stop having the argue to world that we did the right thing through the media and just put it through the courts. There is a 0% chance the ICC finds us in the wrong.

The UN is not defending OBL here, they are defending an international custom that prohibits states adding more chaos to the global system. If you want to show respect for that norm that we hold many other states accountable to then we should have our decisions be held up to the same light theirs should be.

According to The Rules, Bin Laden needed killing and wound up getting exactly what he needed.
