Surprisingly, on net, last week was not a good one for the Free World. Despite the signal accomplishment of liquidating Osama bin Laden, Western civilization suffered serious reverses on several fronts.

What these reverses all have in common is a deference to the doctrine our enemies’ call “shariah,” in a manner they perceive to be acts of “submission.” Such behavior is exceedingly dangerous, as it invites our foes to redouble their efforts to make us, in the words of the Koran, “feel subdued.”

For instance, consider the aftermath of SEAL Team 6’s extraordinary take-down of bin Laden. What ensued was nothing less than a debacle as President Obama’s political appointees kept changing their accounts of what had happened. As one wag put it, “Osama bin Laden died and we got 72 versions.”

The subtext was of an administration effort desperately trying not to give offense to our adversaries. Yet, they and our friends could only have felt reaffirmed in their already dim view of what passes for American leadership under Mr. Obama.

Then, there was the unctuous effort to dispose of bin Laden’s body in strict “conformance to Islamic practice.” The fastidious cleansing and wrapping of the body, the 40-minute ceremony and the burial at sea conjure up images of an America treating one of its most psychopathic enemies as a legitimate, even revered figure. Islam scholar Andrew Bostom raises the question whether such rites actually included shariah-conforming denunciations of Christians and Jews? Either way, this exercise was a pathetic act of appeasement.

Next, the President announced that he had decided not to release the dead jihadist’s photo. As with the handling of bin Laden’s burial, the justification given was concern that the picture’s dissemination would only inspire more violence against us and our forces overseas. The truth of the matter is that the more we signal our fear of the violence of shariah-adherent Muslims, the more certain it is to be visited upon us.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday an appeals court in Denmark convicted one of Western civilization’s most courageous defenders – Lars Hedegaard, president of the International Free Press Society. His crime? He gave offense to Muslims. Yes, that’s right, a Danish judicial panel effectively enforced shariah blasphemy law. In the process, the court violated one of the most cardinal pillars of freedom: the right to free speech.

There's nothing like seeing our fearless leader and his underlings cowering in fear, trying to prevent the next attack through poltical correctness. He should study history, particularly that of Neville Chamberlain. If we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. I hope the Republicans field someone fearless against him, instead of a craven RINO.

I'm not seeing anything in the Republican field at the moment; do you know something I don't? :(

Not really, but at this point I truly believe that anyone is better than Obama---other than a weakling RINO.

It's too early, but I think Marco Rubio would be excellent. I don't like many pols, but he's a good one. Of course no matter who the Republicans field, the Dem hate machine will tear them apart.

I was joking about this with a friend and how absurd it has gotten. It is funny to think how we weakly put a bullet in our enemy's brain.

Scandinavian countries have an out-sized reputation for free speech that really isn't warranted. I think that it's a conflation of permissive attitudes about pornography (true) and an intense interest in superficial social justice (true but declining).

In reality, Americans would be astonished at the large number of things you can't say/print/do in Scandinavia. There is no free political press as we envision it and naturally there is nothing really similar to our First Amendment right.

I think any Republican running against Obama this go around will probably be what you all call a RINO. Nobody wants a President who threatens three countries because they supposedly have weapons again. The overall opinion seems to be that we're in enough wars and shouldn't get into more.

I don't agree that not showing the photo was showing fear. I think it showed common sense. The concept behind the war against terrorism is to stop terrorism, not to provoke it. There's a difference between not defending ourselves and purposely provoking others (last paragraph toward OP).

I wouldn't call someone like Herman Cain a RINO.

Or Sarah Palin for that matter.

You don't get it do you?

Let's review what this administration and Liiberals deem as "acceptable photo releases"....

Two American contractors burned and hung from a bridge - Acceptable and award winning

Dead future Medal of Honor awardee drug through the streets of Mogadishu - Acceptable and award winning

Release of 2,000+ Abu Ghraib detainee abuse photos because the ACLU sues to get them...Acceptable

Unauthorized release of the 5-2 Infantry "kill team photos" - Acceptable

One photograph of the worlds most wanted terrorist released to the world - DENIED

Liberals and this administration in particular give not a DAMN about the reaction Americans might have and the outrage they might feel at seeing those kinds of atrocious pictures released...but you let a picture of someone the Muslims in this part of the world look to as a hero even get hinted at being released and suddenly there's worry about inflaming hostilities and concern for Muslim sensitivities.

What a bunch of horse shit. If it makes this country look bad the Libs are all for freedom of the press and people having the right to know.

If it's a win for the U.S> that shows the world we mean business and we have to power to reach out and get ANYONE that threaten's this country...well that's bad and can't be shown or promoted.

    FIXED

If Cain or Palin don't get the nomination, I would like to see Gov. Perry of Texas tear Obama a new asshole in a debate. That would be sweet.

Over the years, we have heard so much talk from people regarding going about our lives and showing no fear or the terrorists have already won. I fail to see how not showing these photographs are any different.

Fearing their ire means they are winning. I find that unacceptable.
