AP - Gfk Poll: Obama's Approval Hits 60 Per Cent.

    Source: Yahoo News, AP

By LIZ SIDOTI and JENNIFER AGIESTA, Associated Press – 10 min ago

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's approval rating has hit its highest point in two years — 60 percent — and more than half of Americans now say he deserves to be re-elected, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll taken after U.S. forces killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

In worrisome signs for Republicans, the president's standing improved not just on foreign policy but also on the economy, and independent Americans — a key voting bloc in the November 2012 presidential election — caused the overall uptick in support by sliding back to Obama after fleeing for much of the past two years.

Comfortable majorities of the public now call Obama a strong leader who will keep America safe. Nearly three-fourths — 73 percent — also now say they are confident that Obama can effectively handle terrorist threats. And he improved his standing on Afghanistan, Iraq and the United States' relationships with other countries.

    We're sunk!!!1111!!!

    Well.......not really.......

The Dem/Rep/Ind breakdown in this poll is 46/29/4, as AP assigned most of the leaners to the parties. That is a 17-point gap, more than twice what was seen in the 2008 actual popular vote that elected Obama. It only gets worse when independents are assigned properly. When taking out the leaners, the split becomes — I’m not kidding — 35/18/27. Oh, and another 20% “don’t know.” That’s significantly worse than the March poll, in which the proper D/R/I was 29/20/34, and far beyond their post-midterm sample of 31/28/26. It’s pretty easy to get Obama to 60% when Republicans are undersampled by almost half.

    1. This should peg the doomsday clock

The right wing must have their panties in a wad over this.
No, but with with how much they had to skew the Democrat/Republican/Independents breakdown to get him to 60%, liberals SHOULD have THEIR panties in a wad over it.

those who oppose him will fall.
He did what he said he would do, somewhat different than the previous person, and people appreciate it. As Thom Hartmann said, "I am so glad that he is our President and not George Bush."
Now most of the country feels this too.
I'm sure the mythical 35% of Democrats agree.

    4. Yes, and let's hope he can bring back the House AND Senate on his coattails

It's imperative to win back the House and to make gains in the Senate if this country is to make any more strides in the right direction.

The publicans heads must be exploding at this news, especially after all they've done to obstruct President Obama.

    11. "the president's standing improved not just on foreign policy but also on the economy"
That alone should have had the DUers questioning and hunting for the party breakdown, but because it says what they WANT it to say they put the blindfolds over their eyes and earplugs in their ears and begin to crow.

None of those things change REALITY though.:D

Perry is grandstanding. Everyone knows that. Other than give people who don't support the President of the United States another reason to piss and moan, the whole "imbroglio" over additional distaster aid from the federal government is wholly manufactured.

That could be said of any big metro area. They are filled with idiotic, dumb, ignorant, and racist voters. ;)

Latest AP Poll Sample Skews to Democrats by 17 Points

Wow! The AP poll has Obama’s approval rating hitting 60 percent! And 53 percent say he deserves to be reelected!

And on the economy, 52 percent approve of the way Obama’s handling it, and only 47 percent disapprove! He’s up 54–46 on approval of how he’s handling health care! On unemployment, 52 percent approval, 47 percent disapproval! 57 percent approval on handling Libya! Even on the deficit, he’s at 47 percent approval, 52 percent disapproval!
    snip
But then you get to the party ID: 46 percent identify as Democrat or leaning Democrat, 29 percent identify as Republican or leaning Republican, 4 percent identify as purely independent leaning towards neither party, and 20 percent answered, “I don’t know.”

For contrast, the AP’s immediate preceding poll was 45 percent Democrat, 33 percent Republican; the likely-voter pool in October 2010 was 43 percent Democrat, 48 percent Republican. The poll’s total sample in October 2010 split 43 percent Democrat, 40 percent Republican.

With a poll sample that has a 17-percentage-point margin in favor of the Democrats, is anyone surprised that these results look like a David Axelrod dream?
