SWAT team fired 71 shots in raid

The Pima County Regional SWAT team fired 71 shots in seven seconds at a Tucson man they say pointed a gun at officers serving a search warrant at his home.
Jose Guerena, 26, a former Marine who served in Iraq twice, was holding an AR-15 rifle when he was killed, but he never fired a shot, the Sheriff's Department said Monday after initially saying he had fired on officers during last week's raid.

Six days after Guerena was shot, few details about the investigation that brought the SWAT team to the southwest-side home Guerena shared with his wife and their two young sons are known. Guerena's role in the narcotics investigation is unclear and deputies would not comment on what was seized from his home.

Three other homes within a quarter of a mile from Guerena's house, were served search warrants related to the investigation that morning. The addresses and the names of people who live in the other homes have not been made public.

    Wrong Marine?
In most sports, cold-cocking an opposing player repeatedly in the face with a series of gigantic Slovakian uppercuts would get you a multi-game suspension without pay.

In hockey, it means you have to sit in the penalty box for five minutes.

Let's see if a certain someone holds the Pima County sheriff as responsible for this as he does another certain Arizona sheriff for anything his men do.

I'm still trying to figure out where the "wrong Marine" came from. They had a warrant on his house They announced themselves. He was pointing an assualt rifle at them, and the police thought he had opened fire on them.

No where in that article did I see anything about this being the "wrong person". It was who they were looking for.

"No One is talking about what evidence they had to justify the breakin....."

Deputies said they seized a "large sum of money from another house" that morning. But they refused to say from which of the homes searched that morning they found narcotics, drug ledgers or drug paraphernalia.

Court documents showing what was being sought and was found have not been made public. A computer check on Guerena revealed a couple of traffic tickets and no criminal history.

"We had just bought a home and he was working graveyard shifts and overtime just to help pay the bills, we were just starting to make this house our home," Vanessa Guerena said.

"I know I can't have him back but I want justice. I want explanations for what happened," she said

71 shots in 7 seconds is reckless and a public safety issue. That's not careful, aimed shots to bring down a suspect, that's spray and pray.
Not that you should go around pointing guns at cops, or not drop them when directed. But 71 round to zero? You can get spend less rounds in a short firefight in Afghanistan.

Keep dreaming. He probably has a poster of Sheriff Dipstick hanging on his wall.

This I agree with. All the training I receive tells me that in order to use deadly force, you must take everything into account which includes where a missed shot will go. As for the 'wrong Marine' comment, I agree with DJones. Who exactly was the right Marine?

They had a search warrant for his house. So how was it wrong? Very first sentence of the story.
