My computer was down a couple of days so maybe I've missed part of the story but I'm wondering how they could send information back and forth if they weren't connecting to the internet? Thumb drives and other media by courier?

Its most likely that the couriers brought little flash drives to Osama and he used PC's to view the files; videos, sound files, pictures, etc. Likewise, he probably also created videos and text documents on them, then put them on flash drives to give back to the couriers.

The moron probably left temp files on the hard drive which the CIA will be able to extract.

A fine example of what happens when people have no education in history. These morons have no concept of times past being any different than times present, thinking the way things are is the way they have always been. There was a time when people communicated, traded information, collaborated on projects, all without computers or internet, lurkers. And some folks still do, for various reasons, including terrorists who know the US is entirely too reliant on electronic surveillance.
