Top French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn dragged off flight at JFK, accused of sodomizing maid

A top French politician nicknamed "the great seducer" was dragged off a flight at Kennedy Airport Saturday after he was accused of sodomizing a Manhattan hotel maid, sources said.

Port Authority cops grabbed Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the International Monetary Fund and a presidential hopeful in France, moments before his Air France plane took off about 4:45 p.m.

Strauss-Kahn, 62, allegedly crept up behind a maid after she entered his room and forced her to perform oral sex on him, sources said.

The woman broke free and ran out of the room. Strauss-Khan quickly headed for the airport, sources said.

Charges against Strauss-Kahn, who is married to well-known French TV journalist Anne Sinclair, were pending Saturday night, sources said.

Hours before Strauss-Kahn was pulled from the flight, a close Socialist Party ally claimed he was the target of a smear campaign by French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, has been charged by New York police over an alleged sex attack on a hotel maid.

Mr Strauss-Kahn, 62, was taken off an Air France plane at JFK airport just minutes before it left for Paris.

Police say he faces three charges, including attempted rape. His lawyers say he denies the claims.

The married former French finance minister is also considered a possible Socialist candidate for the presidency.

Here's hoping he doesn't get off on that. Reading the story, the maid was treated at the hospital for minor injuries. Plus it doesn't look good that he was leaving so quickly that he left his phone and other personal articles behind in the hotel room.

The BBC's Hugh Schofield, in Paris, says Mr Strauss-Kahn has been riding high in the polls and was seen as having a genuine chance of beating President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Martine Aubry, leader of France's Socialist Party, described news of his arrest as a "thunderbolt" which left her "astounded
Not any more, but who knows? Maybe the French electorate will think its cool and he'll gain in the polls.

    Nothing will happen to him.

With the French, who the heck knows. I'm afraid you'll be right, SLW. They will think it's cool and vote him in. Plus Sarcozy has lost a lot of support.

The French had to withdraw his diplomatic immunity so that he could be arrested, so I don't see them giving it back.

Persons traveling under diplomatic passports or who are assigned to embassies or consulates are immune to prosecution in the countries that they are assigned to. The IMF isn't a nation, has no embassies or consulates and shouldn't enjoy diplomatic immunity. If it did, they would not have been able to detain him.
