Confusion after Vice President Biden landed in Chicago on Monday almost resulted in a collision between two passenger planes just above the tarmac at O’Hare International Airport , according to federal officials and air traffic recordings.
The near-collision involved a pair of 50-seat, twin-engine commuter jets, one inbound from Muskegon, Mich., and the other taking off for Buffalo. The planes came within 300 feet of colliding, a crash that was averted as an angry pilot and a surprised air traffic controller expressed their dismay with expletives.
A controller supervisor stepped in, ordering that the inbound plane, a SkyWest Airlines Canadair jet with 29 people aboard, abort its landing to avoid an ExpressJet Airlines Embraer ERJ-145 that was rolling down a runway toward takeoff.
“Oh, [expletive],” said the controller who had ordered the ExpressJet to take off, according to a recording of the tower traffic.
How many people have died or almost died during Biden's entourages?
Somehow I am not surprised. When papa joe came calling for campaign cash and to try and foist a woefully bad dem candidate for US congress on us 1 year ago,his entourage was enormous. There were at least a dozen vehicles including an ambulance and a tank like vehicle. This entourage snarled up traffic for hours in both directions. Many still ask why the loser couldn't take a damn helicopter the 4 miles he had to travel to the venue.
My comfort is that the dem candidate lost handily in Nov!!!
I remember from my flight training, something called wingtip vortex, generated by large aircraft like the C17. (This is in reference to Michelle's aircraft following too closely.)
As far as O'Hare goes, it is insane there under routine circumstances.
And one more thing - I sat at the Philadelphia Airport back around 1967, when LBJ held the Glassboro summit with whoever was head of the USSR at the time. Every flight was held up until they departed the airport, and it was almost like a video game when they let all of the airplanes loose. Buzzing like flies, with aircraft crossing each other's paths with intersecting runways.
It seems that the problem stems from the disruption of normal ATC activities in order to give special attention to planes carrying VIPs. Maybe if the controllers had to follow standard procedures no matter who's plane it was, these incidences would be reduced.
