The two Palestinian teen-agers from Awarta (West Bank) who brutally slaughtered the Fogel family in their Itamar home (north of Jerusalem) on March 11, were officially charged with five counts of homicide on Sunday. The Jerusalem Post reports:
The defendants, 17-year-old Hakim Awad and 18-year-old Amjad Awad, who are from the same clan, have confessed to stabbing and shooting two young brothers, their parents, and a three-month-old baby in the attack.
In a chilling statement to reporters, an unrepentant Amjad Awad proclaimed "I don't regret what I did, and I would do it again," adding "I'm proud of what I did and I'll accept any punishment I get, even death, because I did it all for Palestine."
The official charges provide details of how the Awads approached the home and noticed 4-year old Elad and his 11-year-old brother Yoav asleep in their beds and then entered the home and stabbed the boys to death.
The killers then made their way to the parent's bedroom where they attacked Ehud and Ruth Fogel. During the attack the Fogels fought a desperate battle with their attackers, but the Awads overpowered the couple and Ehud succumbed to numerous stab wounds while Ruth was shot to death during the struggle.
As the two murderers fled the home, they could hear the cries of Hadas, the Fogel's three-month-old daughter who had been awakened by the attack. The Awads re-entered the home and stabbed the baby to death in her crib.
Last month as Mr. Obama was pandering to the Muslim world by suggesting that Israel return to their 1967 borders, the Palestinian Authority enacted a new law which will pay a monthly salary to Palestinians and Arab-Israelis serving prison sentences in Israel for terrorism
Among those eligible for salaries are Abdullah Barghouti, serving 67 life sentences for acts that include planning the Sbarro restaurant (2001) and Monument café (2002) suicide bombings in Jerusalem; Hasan Salameh, serving 38 life sentences for offences that include planning a series of 1996 bus bombings; and Jamal Abu al-Hijja, serving nine life sentences for planning 2005 bombings in Hadera and Netanya
The law will provide a salary to help with the needs of the prisoners, benefits for released prisoners and payments to assist the prisoners' families. Will the Awads be put on the Palestinian Authority payroll for the coldblooded murder of the Fogel family?
