This is good, as is any triumph of free speech over totalitarianism and/or theocracy...

British publisher to bring out controversial Prophet Mohammed novel
    Sep 3 04:11 PM US/Eastern

A novel about the Prophet Mohammed and his child bride, which has already caused controversy in the United States and Serbia, will be released in Britain next month, its publisher said Wednesday.
Publishing house Gibson Square, known for having sold other controversial books, such as Alexander Litvinenko's "Blowing Up Russia", said it was "imperative" that "The Jewel of Medina" by American author Sherry Jones be available to the public.

Random House announced last month that it had cancelled publication of the book -- a fictional account of the Prophet's relationship with his youngest bride Aisha -- in the United States, saying it had been informed by credible sources that the book could incite violence.

The book was also released in Serbia last month, but was withdrawn after protests from the local Muslim community.

Martin Rynja, publishing director at Gibson Square, said, however, that in "an open society there has to be open access to literary works, regardless of fear."

"As an independent publishing company, we feel strongly that we should not be afraid of the consequences of debate," he added.

Wait a second. Is this true?:
Random House announced last month that it had cancelled publication of the book...in the United States, saying it had been informed by credible sources that the book could incite violence.
What other books are not being published because they might offend? And why isn't this insanity being stopped?

I saw an interview with her a while ago, she is not going to let this rest, there is no blasphemy in this book.
    According to her.
Like a book could incite more violence than is already percieved.

If I remember from her interview, it was some a-hole college perfesser here in the U.S.A. that said it was inflammitory. Go figure.

This is essentially a Harlequin Romance version of a 54 year old guy with a bunch of wives who bangs a nine year old girl and they all live happily ever after. There is nothing redeeming or even interesting about the work itself but the fact that it is probably capable of inciting violence from a bunch deranged Muslims. Good for the Brit publishers.

Tolerance is a truly Western virtue. You don't have to like Piss Christ or cartoons about Islam but you do have to refrain from property damage and interpersonal violence as vehicles for your outrage. The sooner these people get that lesson, the better or we will all be living in an Islamic theocracy watching them stone frisky women and homos to death every Friday night.
