Believe it or not, that speaks volumes. In the Army I taught a women's self-defense class at the post fitness center. One of the the things I made very clear was that if you were going to defend yourself with a bat or golf club, you better be willing to take a homerun style swing at your attacker's head. You better be looking to spatter some blood and brains on the wall because the person who broke into your house has no qualms about spattering yours.

If you are going to be in the least bit tentative you better just not defend yourself at all and instead just throw your legs up wide and high and try to enjoy the last lay you are ever gonna have because you will be found dead in your house looking a real mess before too long.

As for my home defense, I have a Ruger .45 at an easy to get to but strategic spot in the living room. An M1911 .45 in my bedroom and my katana behind the bedroom door. Deeanna has a Winchester 12 gauge pump in her room.

i highly suggest them to people.

I use 2 for the shotgun. Holds it firm high up above the inside of my closet door.
I installed two of these on on the metal frame of Deeanna's bed. She keeps her shotgun stowed under there.

I don't care about the blood of the attacker's head...I don't want to dissipate the value of the World Series bat.

2nd degree black belt in Shorin Ryu karate, aluminum baseball bat, katana, boken, and a hand and a half Bastard Sword that has my name written all over it. ;) I wouldn't mind having a shotgun, but it's such an ass ache in this state. We are thinking about moving from NJ back to America in several years at which time I will buy guns again.

Our first line of defense would be the dogs, 4 of which would try to tear your throat out if you came inside uninvited.
After that, handgun put away in the living room, knives in the kitchen and anywhere else I am always within 15 feet of a rifle, shotgun or handgun except in bed where 2 handguns are within reach for either of us.

It may be called paranoia, but we are at least a 15 minute emergency response time and even though we are stuck out in the country, about 6 years ago some druggie broke into a house not too far from my house and killed the owner, his wife, their son and his wife with a hammer looking for cash.

The difference between pigs and people is that when they tell you you're cured it isn't a good thing.

I have to ask...do you folks with the semi-auto pistols stashed away for home defense...practice malfunction clearing, reloading and firing from odd positions?

If you don't, you're gonna die.

My liberal boyfriend... who hasn't figured out yet that he is a conservative, has lots of hunting stuff in a gun safe. He also has something loaded and easy to get at.

    Me, I have attack animals.

I have a Catahoula Leopard Dog that I inherited from my dad when he died. At times during the day, I will open the back gate and let Kato out. He runs around for a while, chases cats and rabbits, makes a pest of himself with a couple of neighbors for treats. He gets tired of it after an hour or two of exploring and sniffing and he will go back into the back yard. He is the friendliest most laid back dog you ever saw. Funny thing, though. He does not like the gate open when he is back there and will knock on my door or bark and whine at my mom's house next door until someone closes the gate behind him.

Once that gate is closed he is on duty and no one but a select group of folks is allowed back there. He has cornered wetbacks in the yard several times.
