State lawmakers have passed a bill that allows Texans to skirt federal efforts to promote more efficient light bulbs, which ultimately pushes the swirled, compact fluorescent bulbs over the 100-watt incandescent bulbs many grew up with.

The measure, sent to Gov. Rick Perry for consideration, lets any incandescent light bulb manufactured in Texas - and sold in that state - avoid the authority of the federal government or the repeal of the 2007 energy independence act that starts phasing out some incandescent light bulbs next year. Didn't South Carolina do the same thing?

Nobody liked the damned florescent things. I wondered if there was a tungsten shortage. Apparently, there is. Maybe that's the reason for the current switch:

Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States ... not to the President of the US or even the Congress of the US. so they can legally tell DC to shove it. and since the black dictator has defied the Constitution, all states should have the right to Secede

Wish they would do it here in Iowa. In the coming months, I'll be stocking up on bulbs because of this BS.

We could say they are spending like drunken sailors. That would be unfair to drunken sailors, they're spending their OWN money.

it's more about forcing people to buy something that is more expensive and dangerous to ones health. Go on KS break a CLR lightblub...there is tons of mercury and other heavy metals in there
