" The RINO Romney is Burned Toast ."

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann sit atop the standings in the year’s first Des Moines Register Iowa Poll on the Republican presidential field.

Romney, the national front-runner and a familiar face in Iowa after his 2008 presidential run, attracts support from 23 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers. Bachmann, who will officially kick off her campaign in Iowa on Monday, nearly matches him, with 22 percent.

“She’s up there as a real competitor and a real contender,” said Republican pollster Randy Gutermuth, who is unaffiliated with any of the presidential candidates. “This would indicate that she’s going to be a real player in Iowa.”

Former Godfather’s CEO Herman Cain, who has never held public office but has found a following among tea party supporters, comes in third, with 10 percent.

The other candidates tested register in single digits: former U.S. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul, 7 percent each; former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, 6 percent; former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, 4 percent; and former Utah Gov. and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, 2 percent.

    Should be a close race.

Romney being a strong conservative will play well here.

Bachmann was born in Iowa, so she should fair well here too.

    .
Romney is no conservative in my book. He is a slick flip flopping RINO and the father of Obamacare. Plus, he had a horrible economic record as Gov. The state placed 47th in job growth when he became Gov.; when he left, it placed 47th. Had it not been for Hurricane Katrina where Louisiana lost hundreds of thousand of jobs, MA would have placed 48th.

To some people starting your own socialized healthcare program and raising taxes and spending most of your life pro choice is being a strong conservative. It makes you wonder what they think liberalism is.

Romney doesn't give a rats ass about Iowa or New Hampshire, he's not actively campaigning in either of them.

If Bachmann wins or comes in 2nd in either of those two, she'll be the one to beat and have momentum on her side

lol. Romney and conservative are mutually exclusive terms.

It's dumb ass voters of Iowa that have short memories and no knowledge of what Romney actually has "done".
People would lose their minds if the candidates weren't labeled R or D on the ballot.
