I'd rather we be on our way to letting "miles per gallon" become a thing of the past, but our market economy is ridiculously hostile to innovation in energy, so this'll have to do pig.

The difference between pigs and people is that when they tell you you're cured it isn't a good thing.

You are of course wrong. No one in this country and anti-innovation. They are, however, anti-intervention with regard to the government. You like all on the Left want EVERYTHING, and you want it all right now. Ergo your "comprehensive/omnibus" legislation. You are not about going slowly to get there faster, you are about racing ahead to never get there at all.

Believe it or not, what you and your fellow Marxists don't get, and what the free market does, is that you can do more than one thing at a time if you want to. We can tap into the vast energy resources we have here in the US to deal with the short-term problem while we innovate and create viable alternate and renewable sources of energy for the long term.

You and your ilk are going to destroy the environment and human progress in one "comprehensive/omnibus" swoop, all because you haven't the maturity of intellect to understand the process of lasting change.
"The efforts of the government alone will never be enough. In the end the people must choose and the people must help themselves" ~ JFK; from his famous inauguration speech (What Democrats sounded like before today's neo-Liberals hijacked that party)

How many trucks do you know that can get near 40 mpg right now?

I think Ford's Escape hybrid gets high mileage, but it's not exactly something that is in my price range, so I don't know exactly what the rate is. I really don't need an SUV, anyways.

they can do it. i hate to sound like a stupid liberal, but seriously the oil companies are out to get us
Sure they can. You can build a car that will get 100 MPG, as long as you don't care about things like crash tests. Lighter, flimsier cars get better mileage, but provide less protection and carry less stuff. One could say that they are choosing blood over oil, but that really would make me sound like a stupid lib.

The market loves innovation, but it can't be mandated by central planners. That's why this is going to fail.

    For a greenies like you:

What has ethanol accomplished. It uses almost a gallon of fuel to produce a gallon of fuel and does it with a food source that has caused food grains to soar and starvation in 3rd world countries. Well done D & R idiots.

Wind. Another boondoggle that has almost bankrupted Spain. They have canned this expensive energy source. The electricity costs for the MA wind turbines off their coast will double and triple the price to 33 cents per kw. Morons.

Electric cars. Another joke. If they were not heavily subsidized, the mfg. would ditch them. The Volt will prove to be a disaster for taxpayers who have a billion dollar stake in this dog.

We have enough oil and natural gas in this country to supply all of our energy needs without these hair-brain foolhardy greenie ideas. Maybe one day there will be a partial substitute for oil but liberals and environmentalists hating on oil is just retarded. Oh, by the way, Obama wants Bryson confirmed as his new Commerce Sect., and he is one of those retarded liberal idiots from the kool aid state that hate oil.

Even ethanol has been bashed by the left.

The subsidies even pay some farmers to leave land idle to curb production. It's like welfare for the family farm.

Willie Nelson can shove his farm aid in his pipe and smoke it. I lived in the Midwest, everyone I knew that farmed made big money.

He's going to announce the new standards tomorrow.

WASHINGTON/DETROIT (Reuters) - The Obama administration has reached a compromise with automakers on a new fuel economy target for cars and trucks, ending months of negotiations on this pivotal mandate for the auto industry.

Automaker fleets will now have to average 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, according to people familiar with the plan.

Chief executives at the major automakers could sign off on the plan as early as Wednesday night, one of the people said.
Say good bye to any thing larger then a 4 cylinder.
