As I type, Phoenix is getting it's first major haboob of the monsoon season. It's blowing so hard it sounds like my AC Unit might rip off the roof. My lights have flickered but they haven't gone out. It's going to be pretty miserable if they do. It's still 108 outside right now.
Monsoon storms are the only thing that redeem the crappy summer season. They can be exciting to watch.

Yikes! I've seen pics of sandstorms in Australia and China but I guess I never thought about that kind of thing here.

Fantastic pictures of another one happening in the SE valley right now. I don't think it's going to make it to my side of town but you never know.

They are saying on ABC15 that this is the biggest haboob in decades. Thirty miles wide. All planes at Sky Harbor are grounded. Absolutely incredible!

Yeah we get those here often too, but I've not heard the term haboob before.
