I lived in SW Florida for 10 years, 30 miles south of Sarasota (the city, not SR :D) and got used to sticking up for the Space Program when talking to my Canadian family and friends.

SR, can't remember how long you have been in Florida, but if you have not experienced it yet ... I used to love hearing the Shuttle break the sound barrier when it was re-entering.

LOL!!! I never went down to the Cape for a launch but I did see a Shuttle go up a little before dusk. I could see the boosters separate, it was pretty cool considering it was clear across the state and then some.
