My position on Islam formed over several events. I lived in DC in 1977 when the Hanafi Muslims attacked, and 1979 when the Iranian "students" burned the American flag. I lived in San Francisco when terrorists bomb the Bank Melli Iran there. I started paying attention to the Islamic violence in Italy about the same time.

It's kind of funny-I met a very different type of Iranian student during college in the 80s. I met several who were in the process of applying for american citizenship because they were exiles after the revolution, mostly because they were Sunni muslims and the revolutionary government is Shi'ite. They were a pretty secular bunch, though, and mostly from pretty wealthy families who got out with most of their wealth before the revolution. The women didn't wear any traditional garb, not even the hijab.

They were lucky in more ways than one. The Muslim women at Disney were wearing the full hijab and multiple layers of clothing in hundred-degree heat. By mid morning, you could identify their locations by the breaks in the crowd around them, as no deodorant will work under those conditions. The men were all comfortably dressed in various western clothes, but the women were miserable.

We really need to defeat this misogynist monstrosity.
