Metro Detroit Begins Rotating Blackouts

FERNDALE - The excessive heat and higher electrical demand has led DTE Energy to begin intentional rolling blackouts in one Metro Detroit community, Thursday afternoon, and at least one other area could follow. Residents in Ferndale, already hit with roughly 5,000 outages due to “system stress”, are now on rolling blackouts for the rest of the day.

There were about 25,000 DTE customers without electricity, Thursday afternoon, as temperatures were set to hit the triple digits in Metro Detroit. The biggest outages right now are in Redford Township, Detroit’s westside, Ferndale and Plymouth Township.

Ferndale resident Mason Campbell is one of those coping without electricity.
“The apartment’s very hot, the air is thick and humid,” Campbell said. “You know, we live in small apartments and maybe, if you went on the porch, you’d probably be able to sleep, maybe … but it’s kind of difficult,” he said.

Being the Metro Detroit area, I give it a couple days before Rev. Jesse and Rev. Al are in Detroit claiming its racism against poor black folk so that the rich Oakland County suburbanites don't get their power cut.

We have enough natural gas in this country to be completely energy independent without importing a drop of overseas oil. It amazes me of the stupidity of our politicians who do not understand that natural gas is cheaper, cleaner burning and readily available than any other energy source known to mankind.

You make the mistake of assuming that political critters are rational human beings with natural intelligence.
In reality they are a species of blood sucking Ooze worm that slide on the slopes of the least resistance .

Ferndale, Redford and Plymouth are not exactly areas filled with poor black folk. Ferndale and Redford are pretty integrated. Ferndale is an upscale, gay-friendly, trendy burb. Redford is a working class, mixed area of mostly families. Plymouth is mostly all-white and is a middle to upper middle class area. Downtown Plymouth is one of those quaint "village" shopping areas.
