The Korea Dog Farmers' Association had scheduled a 'festival' aimed at promoting traditional dog meat consumption this week, but it was cancelled following the rising drumbeat of protest from animal rights activists.

This unfathomable 'festival' was planned to be held in the city of Seongnam just south of Seoul, and would showcase various canine delicacies...which frankly yours truly is unable to convey here as it is simply too upsetting to detail : (

    Beyond Barbaric

How is it possible that this unfathomable practice is still legally going on in South Korea!?! How is it possible tthat nearly 600 farms still raise dogs for meat in South Korea? Un-freaking believable. The good news is that an increasing number of South Koreans are staunchly opposed to this practice and step-by-step, Korean animal activists are working to put an end to it, though it has unfortunately been a slow process due to grey areas in the legal system.

How many of you have cows in your home as pets? I do see a difference. To me it's not a LOL situation.

My son worked for an international trade company. The owner, from Korea, asked if my son could get info from me on sources for sending dogs to Korea. I told him "not on my life, would NEVER do that." I wouldn't trust that the Koreans were importing those dogs for pets. Their reputation stands in the way of that with me.

The Chinese also have a large market in dog meat .They will drink Snake and Cat blood as a blood cure..The Traditional Chinese Medicine market in most of East Asia includes a number of animals that we would consider pets or at the least, strange food..

no, it hangs out with cells of other types :D

but seriously, pigs are just as smart as dogs, if not smarter, so i don't see why we cant just leave the south koreans alone. they might think hamburgers are weird, we think dog meat is weird. its just culture.

So would you eat dog meat? I wouldn't. I almost threw a guy from Togo (African country) out of my house when he was a visitor courtesy of the State Department (sponsored his trip to St Louis--I was the lucky "typical" American to host him at my house). He started talking about eating dogs and looking at my hounds. A relative kicked me under the table as she could tell I was getting more upset by the minute.

BTW, do you have any pets?

You should have changed the subject. You know, to something like eating Africans. :)

He explained that eating dogs was a right of passage for boys about to enter adulthood. He was in the US to try to erase the amount of debt owed to the US and then get subsequent new loans. He had on large diamond jewelry, along with the tribal robes. To say that I didn't particularly like him was the understatement of the century. :D

I stupidly at that point didn't understand how the folks of his religion don't like dogs. If I did, probably would have borrowed a few dogs from my friends to further annoy him. :p
