As reported in B'Machana, the Israeli Defense Force has planted mines along the border with Syria. The preparations are being made in case residents of Syria use the Palestinian Authority's bid for statehood in September as an opportunity to storm the borders.

Mines were laid across the perimeter fence, within the Israeli side of the border. Maj. Ariel Illouz of the engineering corps stated that the mines, combined with IDF troops, would prevent border crossing by masses of people.

Code Red Sounded - Gazans Shoot Rocket into Israel

The "Tzeva Adom" Code Red early warning alert system sounded late Saturday night as Gaza residents fired a rocket into Israel. The past month has seen a sharp increase in the number of rocket attacks. The rocket hit an open area of the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council area.

There are no known injuries or damage at this time. The short range rockets are often called Kassams, named after Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, a Syrian leader who led riots against the Jewish communities in the land of Israel in the 1920s and 1930s. He also organized riots in Syria and Libya.

This is no idle fear. The Western Sahara was seized in much the same way as Syria has hinted at. The idea is to simply send masses of people to walk into another country in the belief that no army would fire on unarmed civilians walking.

    The Green March

A 100 dirham note from 1991 commemorating the Green March
The Green March was a well-publicized popular march of enormous proportions. On November 6, 1975, approximately 350,000 unarmed Moroccans[1] converged on the city of Tarfaya in southern Morocco and waited for a signal from King Hassan II to cross into Western Sahara. They brandished Moroccan flags, U.S.A. flags, Saudi Arabia flags & Jordan flags; banners calling for the "return of the Moroccan Sahara," photographs of the King and the Qur'an; the color green for the march's name was intended as a symbol of Islam. As the marchers reached the border, the Spanish Armed Forces were ordered not to fire to avoid bloodshed. The Spanish troops also cleared some previously mined zones. - WIKI
