Original message Talked to GM at my local walmart today. WTF!

I asked him what the heck is going on!?

He said they were directed to raise prices across the board over night.

Everything in my local walmart was raised from 9 cents up to 50 cents per unit.

I cant even fathom what would be the rational for this.

He could not explain the directive either.

Gas per barrel is down to $98 dollars but prices at the pumps have not fallen more than 3 cents from when oil was $156 per barrel.

There have been no shipping disasters that I have heard of.

There have been no world reports of reduced food production.

The only report I have seen is drought in Africa but they are an importer not an exporter of food stuffs.

Maybe its a US drought thing?

Except most of their vegetables are actually imported from other countries and not from US farmers.

I am freaking a little bit...this just doesn't make any sense.

Someone please give me a logical rational why I should not blame this all on monopolistic Corporate Greed?

Walmart has run all other grocery stores out of my area, If I was to shop elsewhere I would have to drive 40 miles away rather than 12.

    I am just totally disgusted.

    This dipshit is "freaking"...ahhh why???

Hey Drew...I'm gonna tell you a secret...George W Bush is running for President again...
    BOO!!! :D

I think it's amazing he or she talked to the GM. I have been shopping at the Skyway Walmart in St Pete since the day it opened, and I have never seen the GM in person. I have seen a giant picture of him. I also have rarely if ever seen a manager (a real manager) running a register, even when the lines were horrendous.

Honestly, I hate my local Walmart. The one in Tyrone is a dream for customer service (all the employees are retirees or housewives) but they have no grocery store. The one in Pinellas Park is just about perfect, but I don't live in Pinellas Park and it's a long way to drive. The new hybrid Walmart at US 19 and Central is OK, but the parking sucks, and it's like a lot of hybrids , not really as good as either of its parents.

We have a Super Wal-Mart within a short drive of the house and it's fine.

That's nothing DeCA has raised the prices on everything from coffee to laundry detergent by as much as $4 over the last couple weeks.

I'd be happy if it hand only been no more than .50 per unit.

I'm new here, so maybe I'm doing this wrong, but maybe the OP was attempting to Speak Truth to Power(C)?

What is the history/meaning behind Speak Truth to Power(C) anyway? From what I've read using my google-fu is that it is a line from some pacifist quakers, but has somehow transformed into an expression for common folk to tell those in power what reality is.

I thought John F'n Kerry used it a lot during the 2004 campaign?

I know that in the 60's all the anti-War/Counter culture hippy types used that phrase.
