DAYTON, Ohio — An Ohio mother convicted of killing her infant daughter in a microwave oven has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance for parole.

China Arnold, 28, chose not to be in the courtroom to hear Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Mary Wiseman deliver the sentence.

A jury spared Arnold from the death penalty last week after it couldn't reach a consensus. That leaves sentencing options of life in prison without parole, or with parole after at least 25 or 30 years.

    Some background
DAYTON, Ohio — A prosecutor says an Ohio mother intentionally put her month-old baby in a microwave oven and cooked the child to death.

Assistant Montgomery County prosecutor Daniel Brandt leveled the charge Thursday during closing arguments in the retrial of 28-year-old China Arnold. Her infant daughter, Paris Talley, died in 2005.

Brandt says Arnold could have stopped the microwave but didn't.

Defense attorney Jon Paul Rion told the jury there was evidence that someone else was responsible.

He cites testimony from an 8-year-old boy who said he saw another boy walk into the kitchen with the baby and heard the microwave go on.,2933,412741,00.html

Apparently she did it to get back at the baby's father.

Sometimes it's difficult to differentiate between a schizophrenic and a sociopath, but if she put the baby in the microwave to punish the father, she's a sociopath. A schizophrenic's motive wouldn't have been so simple.

I don't care why she did it. Either way, she's given up her right to mingle with civilized people.
