I joined the navy in '63.
I had always wanted to go into the navy; ever since I was puppy. And it was everything I had expected. But in '63 we were all subject to the draft, and the first question they asked before talking to you about a job was, "Have you got your service done yet?"
I stayed in 9 years.

I always wanted to be in the Army as long as I could remember. I wanted to jump out of airplanes, go to far off places. I guess I watched too many comercials. Be All You Can Be.
It is an experience I wouldnt trade for all the money in the world.

I felt it was my duty. I left a job as a consultant with the oil companies, had a mortgage, two kids. Was 26 when I enlisted. Signed up for a three year hitch and reupped for another three.
