Highlight of my career was watching the Berlin Wall come down. Not necessarily a fun experience, but to be involved in some of that history was inspiring.

In most sports, cold-cocking an opposing player repeatedly in the face with a series of gigantic Slovakian uppercuts would get you a multi-game suspension without pay.
In hockey, it means you have to sit in the penalty box for five minutes.

HondurasThe 21st century. The age of Smart phones and Stupid people.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Marine Corps '64 to '67
Marine Detachment USS Wright CC-2
The USS Wright was a sister ship to the USS Northampton both outfitted as emergency relocation for the President and/or the Pentagon chiefs of staff during times of war.
A more memorable time was when we were stationed off the coast of Uruguay South America.
President Johnson was to meet with Latin American leaders at a summit hosted by Uruguay, in Punta del Este, April 1967.
We as Marines were in full battle gear 24 hours/day for three days while Johnson was in Uruguay in case an extraction was needed.
An amusing story occured on our way home when the Lieutenant instructed the squad leader responsible for the flame thrower, which was loaded with tear gas, to empty the flame thrower off the Fantail. The Lieutenant obviously did not realize that one of the "fresh air in-takes" was located at the Fantail. Countless sailors were lined up at sick bay with coughing and wattery eyes.
We visited such hot spots as Rio de Janeiro, Fort Lauderdale, San Juan Puerto Rico (biggest hangover), Bar Harbor Maine, New York City, Newport, RI (I think that was the port), and of course Norfolk VA.Last edited by J P Sousa; 05-12-2014 at 11:22 AM.
