    Raiders owner Al Davis dead at 82

    OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—Al Davis, the Hall of Fame owner of the Oakland Raiders known for his rebellious spirit, has died.

    The team announced his death at age 82 on Saturday.

    It was not immediately clear when and where he died.

    just heard. talked to some fans on a raider forum. guys like Davis and Lamar Hunt helped bring thr AFC into the NFL. RIP AL

    As evidenced by my username, the Raiders have been and are a huge part of me. Al's passing has left me saddened and appreciative that, in everything he did, his thoughts and actions were done to hopefully better the team and the organization. Raider Nation has lost their leader and their soul. Just Win, Baby!

    IIRC, the Raiders were flailing at the beginning and it was feared that they were going to fold unti Davis took over. That move not only saved the Raiders but possibly the AFL.
