It slows down the game. I wouldn't say that a team that uses it is less talented than the team they use it on, if it works for them. Some teams can beat it with even more speed, but it takes a total team effort. When you have a player like Brendan Shanahan (I know, I'm probably the only Detroit fan who hates him) who is always trying to be the hero and doesn't like to pass off the puck to someone who might actually have a better angle on the goal, the trap totally takes him out of the game.
The only other defense against the trap is to trap them back, but that usually leads to fights. Not that hockey fights are a bad thing.![]()
I went to the flyers vs tampex bay lighting game and they didn't play the trap and got smoked, nuff said
