I have to take exception to that objection. The English language continues to evolve, and as much as I despise it that includes using nouns as verbs, or "verbing a noun" as Scott puts it. English is also a Germanic language, so the combination of words to make new words is also permissible, even if some people are reluctant to go first.
One of the reasons that English is such a dominant language is that the vocabulary is huge, more than double that of most languages, which makes for a very precise tool of communication.
I myself have invented a new word: alterbate. It means to argue both sides in a debate. It was inspired by the idea of switching hands in another activity.
Not much annoys me about the Intarwebs. What really REALLY attracts me to it like a moth drawn to a flame is that pretty much anything goes and any thing can be found here. Real life, fantasy, various collections of people from every corner of the globe, any subject you want to read about or talk about or fight over ..... it's all here and open 24/7/365. I can turn it on or off anytime at my pleasure.
I've always been an avid people watcher. I liken forums like this to a lab experiment. We are all lab rats in a loosely controlled environment and I like to sit back and study the various interactions and posting styles and ways people come and go interacting with each other.
Religious people who continue to insist atheism is a religion.
It's a losing position to take, and actually makes the religious even more petty.
Because what makes them so upset is that if atheism is truly a religion, then that means that the Christians who get upset are getting upset because they worship a different "deity" than they do. And that is an very selfish and petty thing to get upset at.
If atheism was a religion, then we'd have churches next5 to all the porno shops in town. We'd have priests that we'd go confess to because we were attracted to a younger person. We'd make our dogma so that we have to use sex to get a girl pregnant and every single act of sex is a sin that doesn't involve getting a girl pregnant, so on and so forth.
No, if atheism was truly a religion, they'd have to worship a supernatural being that is a higher power and have to go to a church to worship it in little rituals, some are which no more than ritualistic cannibalism.
Atheism is simply a lack of belief, the exact same way a person doesn't believe in unicorns or dragons.
That's all it is.
I don't understand why it's so hard for some people to understand that.
I don't understand why some people will continue to insist that's it's impossible to not believe in the same things they believe in.
