Iran is threatening to stop the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz – a key world oil route in the Persian Gulf – if the West imposes more sanctions over its controversial nuclear energy program.

The sanctions stem from a U.N. watchdog report that alleges the country may be developing nuclear weapons. Iran has denied the claims, stating that its program is for peaceful purposes, Reuters reports.

"If [the West] impose sanctions on Iran's oil exports, then even one drop of oil cannot flow from the Strait of Hormuz," Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi told Iranian news agency IRNA.

"Our enemies will give up on their plots against Iran only if we give them a firm and strong lesson," he added.

Not yet - but we have plenty of air craft carriers to protect it.
It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.

They should really spread these threats out. They are not getting near the impact they used to.

What did a barrel of oil go up today? Whatever it is, it will be gone soon.

They must be running low on cash and have to pump the price of a barrel.

You won't live to see a true shortage of oil. Neither will your parrot, conyer, or maccaw. A tortoise might.

    I looked it up:
    Galapagos Tortoise; 175 years
Bowhead whale (like a giant right whale); 211 years.

That's a long time. I take note that you said a "true" shortage, and your point is worth noting, but still I wonder.

After all, we only started pulling the stuff out of the ground (in Pennsylvania) around 1860 or so and usage has shown no sign of slowing. Can we really expect a supply of oil in 2187? Hard to believe.

Now, the Joshua tree! Surely, it will live to see a shortage of oil.:) Heck, most likely it will live to see a shortage of people!
