Another person I know has a PhD in psychology and struggles with high school math. I know a PhD math theorist who thinks Obama is the answer to all of the country's problems.

The answers I didn't know were the ones about economics. The ones about the government powers and such I answered 100% correct, because I learned about them in high school, in a class that was required for graduation.


Yet I had to explain the difference between a Senator and member of the house to a colleague with a higher degree than mine, I had to explain the three branches to another one who also has a master's degree, and explain basic US history to many others. Most of these colleagues did not graduate from the Detroit Public Schools, either, most went to suburban schools and one went to a private, christian school. The last is, as they say, no longer with the Department.

This is probably not really the place for this commentary but it strikes me that there are many places I need to say this so you're all stuck with it here and may see a variation in other threads in the future..

I worked the oil patch for 40 plus years. In my later years working for a very large major with strong international connections, fields and work locations I daily worked with citizens from every continent, every oil producing country, a great many from the third world and communist/socialist countries and a few good ol’ boy rednecks just like me (at least one of which was a black man from E. Texas). I also worked with more PhD's on a daily basis than any college professor will run into in a semester on campus. On a side note, there was a significant overlap in there. I have no doubt at all that any one of them would make 29-30 or better on this test taking it straight through with no diversions to other internet pages – just as I did.

And, just in case anyone is wondering, I have a BSc and three masters.
