If you think you’ve already heard everything there is to know about Mitt Romney, think again. A 200-page document that appears to be Sen. John McCain’s entire 2008 election-year opposition research file on the former Massachusetts governor hit the Internet with a vengeance Tuesday evening. And it’s an eye-opener.

The file explores everything from the assessed value of Romney’s house (“$3.162 million”) to his views on the Boy Scouts’ ban of homosexuals (“publicly opposed … in 1994 and 2002 campaigns”). It was made public Tuesday on the social media website Buzzfeed, although it appears to have been accessible online for two months.

The document, given the name “The Romney Book,” was viewed less than 100 times on the page where it was originally uploaded by its anonymous leaker on November 11.

Neither McCain nor his former presidential campaign staffers have authenticated the untitled document, and McCain’s recent endorsement of Romney makes that highly unlikely. Still, the file is comprehensive enough — even by Washington, D.C. opposition-research standards — to suggest that it was assembled as a tool to counter a Romney candidacy on a national scale. And the news articles it references stop late in 2007.

I picked it up last night and have been casually reading through it. It's incredibly well researched, organized, and includes references. I haven't found anything "bombshell" worthy, but it is a pretty fascinating read to see such an impressive dossier on a candidate.

One wonders what the McCain Campaign's dossier on Obama looked like, in light of how thorough this one is.

FWIW, especially in light of McCain's recent endorsement, I personally doubt that this was leaked intentionally by McCain. Just one of the inevitable episodes of having an electronic file shared amongst a lot of people and being stored on a lot of servers.

McCain made it plain that he would have fired anyone on his staff that had anything remotely controversial to say about the anointed one. Even if true.

I think he went into the campaign with knee pads in hand. Or on knees or whatever.

Thanks for posting this, Artois. Some people on this forum really need to read that file, instead of attacking me for pointing out the truth about Massachusetts Liberal Flip Romney. Romney would be better off as a DemocRAT. At least the liberal media would be on his side.

    Look, Fettpett & Zathras,

I am NOT beating a "dead horse", so long as a lying Massachusetts liberal flip-flopper, who loves Planned Parenthood and gay marriage, still has the chance to become the Republican nominee. Romney didn't have his "miraculous" pro-life conversion until AFTER he decided he wanted to run for president. And even after his so-called "conversion", he funded Planned Parenthood in Romneycare, and he swore to uphold Massachusetts pro-abortion law.

So long as Romney's campaign for president is still alive and well, I am beating a LIVE horse. And I will continue to do so in order to prevent the liberal "establishment" from taking over the agenda of the Republican Party. Besides, as I have said before, A Massachusetts liberal can't possibly contrast himself to win against a socialist.

There isn't a dime's worth of difference between Obama and Romney and that makes the mighty righties feel uncomfortable. Deep down, they are fully aware that it's the truth, but they just don't want to admit it to themselves.

I have accepted it quite some time ago.

You have just misquoted me, fettpett. Isn't that against the CU forum rules? I'm going to file a complaint.
