This is what bloated government leads to. There isn't a question of whether the US is headed down the same path. We definitely are. When do we get to the destination?
Go for it Greeks, burning businesses, homes, and government buildings ALWAYS makes things better...well, if you believe DU and the Occupoopers, it does, anyway. Every outburst like this just gets the Germans closer to being able to cut your mooching asses loose, pretty much exactly as Ody noted.
If they get kicked out of the Eurozone, it'll be good for everyone else in it but their drachmas (Or whatever they adopt in lieu of Euros) will become as big a joke as the old Italian lira, and if you want to buy anything in Greece after that, you'd better have Euros, Dollars, or Pounds to pay for it.
Turks, mostly. Adding to the problem is the fact that any illegal found in the EU must be returned to the country where he entered - usually Greece. That's a cop out, of course. Most reasonable arrangements would mean being sent to the home country, but not in Europe.
Greece just announced that they will be building a fence at the Turkish border. But the fact remains that once you get into Greece few people are going to ask any questions.
When the PIIGS leave the Euro, the rationale for keeping the European Union together will be that much less compelling. The European Union needed the Euro to prove that it was more than a loose confederation of countries that lacked any commonality other than a desire to confront America. Without the Euro, the EU will consist of an A-list and a B-list, that is, nations that are part of the Eurozone and nations that couldn't play in the varsity, with nothing to unify them except the bureaucracy in Brussels, which isn't much to rally around.
Hmmm... a border fence.... sounds vaguely racist, or at least it does when we do it. Anyone want to bet that the Greeks don't get any grief from the rest of Europe for it?
