#1 Another Reason to Skip Diet Sodas02-22-2012, 08:12 PMA new study shows people who regularly drink diet sodas are 43% more likely to suffer a stroke, heart attack, and other vascular problems than people who didn’t touch diet soda.
Researchers weren’t sure what exactly in the diet soda triggers that increased vascular risk, but something does.
The study, which appeared in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, interestingly found people who drink regular soda and only have, say, one diet soda each week don’t have these vascular issues.
Now, the take-home from this study is not to engulf Coke and only occasionally have a Diet Coke. I want you to ditch soda, period, whether it’s sweetened with aspartame or high-fructose corn syrup.
Nobody pays much attention when I say diet soda can give you a heart attack or stroke. But mention that it makes you fat, and suddenly people get all riled up: “But, wait… It’s diet soda. And it has no calories…”
Don’t shoot the messenger. Studies verify diet soda can pack on the pounds and lots worse.
One study, for instance, showed that diet soda drinkers who drank just two cans a day got fatter than people who drank two cans of regular soda. No kidding.

I rarely drink soda. It ruins the taste of my scotch."The efforts of the government alone will never be enough. In the end the people must choose and the people must help themselves" ~ JFK; from his famous inauguration speech (What Democrats sounded like before today's neo-Liberals hijacked that party)

I stopped drinking diet cola on May 9, 2011 with borderline Stage V kidney disease. I am now Stage III (knock wood) , a vast improvement. But I have also cut out almost all commercial foods (other than a taste here and there) , all red meat and pork, severely limited chicken, and eat small amounts of fish each week. I have also switched to a nearly organic vegetarian diet, which at least one health source has recognized as beneficial in the treatment of CKD.
Meanwhile, I continue to consume one or two Splenda sweetened lemon lime sodas a day, and all the Polar Seltzer water I want.
If you ask me, I'd say that the culprit is Phosphoric acid and Aspartame. While you were hanging yourself , on someone else's words

Agree, I used to drink diet Dr Pepper all the time.
For the past year or two I cut out all cokes except for
an occasional vanilla DP from Sonic once in a while.
To offset the trauma to my body I doubled up on coffee.

good grief people are dumb.....One does not greet death when he knocks at your door.
Nay you repeatedly punch him in the throat as he slowly drags you away.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
You'll pull the Diet Coke can from my cold, dead hands.
