Interesting stuff, Ody, thanks. However, I am still not clear how all that relates to Syria proper and what is happening there now, let alone what will occur later. Are you suggesting that Syria has a similar religious demographic to Lebanon? Again, if that is so, I comes as a surprise to me.

Syria runs Lebanon for Iran. They were forced to remove their uniformed personnel after the Cedar Revolution, but they replaced them with covert operatives who maintain Syrian control of the country and provide the conduit by which Hezbollah is supplied. In return, Hezbollah suppresses the other ethnicities of Lebanon, traffics the drugs that finance much of the Syrian economy and maintains a plausibly deniable but ongoing war with Israel. Undermining Hezbollah would do tremendous damage to Syria and Iran.
