FCC decision strikes critical blow to right-wing radio dominance
    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/03/2...dio-dominance/

A Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decision issued Monday (PDF) will clear the runway for hundreds of new community radio stations that broadcast on low-power FM signals, bringing progressive, community voices to urban areas that have for decades only known what’s being broadcast by major corporations and America’s political right.

In other words, the dismantling of Rush Limbaugh was just the beginning, and the whole FM dial is next.

The FCC’s decision on Monday wipes away a massive backlog of applications for FM repeater stations, which are transmitters that repeat signals broadcast by corporate radio operators — all of which rake in big dollars from the most popular right-wing syndicated talk shows going.

And still no one will listen.

And whats to say these are going to be progressive networks?

Whats to say they don't carry Rush on FM now?

Idiots would only think this is only for them. And who is going to prop them up?

    Not evil corporations?

Public funding? Those networks never last past the first year.

You guys (And gals) are good, in the OP and three reply posts, there was so much correct critical thinking about that DUer's stupid conclusions that you pretty much nailed all the major holes in it.

bringing progressive, community voices to urban areas that have for decades only known what’s being broadcast by major corporations and America’s political right.
By this argument, the FCC should do the same for Conservatives for the decades of liberal (progressive) propaganda that the major networks have been spewing.

Government sponsored Conservative news networks. I can't wait!

Do not ever say that the desire to "do good" by force is a good motive. Neither power-lust nor stupidity are good motives. (Are you listening Barry)?

Actually our "community owned" little psychedelic relic radio station WMNF is pretty popular. For one thing, the sound quality is hugely better than AM radio, and you don't have annoying voices like Levin and Hannity going on for hours on end. The downside is that a fair amount of time is taken up by really annoying voices like Amy Goodman (may she burn in hell or Staten Island) and the NPR people who for some reason think that vibrating that lower end bass thingy in my ear does anything other than make me turn off the radio.

I know I am hard to please, but is it too much to expect people who talk for a living to speak in a smooth tone and medium pitch? And god forbid they pronounce "often" and words which end in "ent", "ant", or "int" correctly.
