It seems like more of a novelty than a practical car or aircraft. As a plane, it's slow, and as a car, it doesn't seem very maneuverable and it has a very high clearance. The specs aren't that impressive, either.
If you happened to live near one airport and regularly commuted over congested roads to a nearby town with an airport, it might be cost-effective. Think about living in Santa Monica and commuting to Burbank, for example, where the commute would normally be about twenty miles through dense traffic, and could easily take a couple of hours, depending on the time of day, but the cost and hassle really make this look more like a toy for someone who wants to show that he's too important to sit in traffic.

it is just an experimental. im curious as to how far they take it
This would be so cool, because living out in the country. It's just a pain going from town back into the country at rush hour.
maybe a little more practical. but they continue the design
Wow, neat!![]()
the one I put in the OP has already landed at the NY auto show
This week at the New York Auto Show a company called Terrafugia will debut a street-legal airplane. A flying car, so to speak.
Called the Transition, the fold-up vehicle will fly 100 miles per hour and has a range of nearly 500 miles. On the road it gets 35 miles per gallon using premium unleaded gasoline. Its not quite the flying car of Jetsons fame, but its the closest thing on the market so far.
