Berkeley Calif. Sea Scout leader sent to six years in prison.

'Ah Berkeley California land of the freaks and treeHumpers and now
the home of Sea Going Pedofilic Child mollesters !

Berkeley Police have arrested long time Sea Scout Leader, Eugene A. Evans, 64, of Kensington. ...A Berkeley Sea Scout leader, who was found guilty in July of molesting boys on the troupe's boat under a plea deal, was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison.

Eugene Evans, 65, must also pay $10,000 in restitution to his victims and register as a sex offender when he is released from prison, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Morris Jacobson ordered following the punishment laid out in the plea deal.

Evans reached the deal with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office in July just before he was set to begin a preliminary trial on 18 felony charges, including child molestation and showing pornographic materials to young boys.

As part of the deal, Evans pleaded no contest to the charges and was found guilty.

Deputy District Attorney Susan Torrence said at the time that the deal was made to spare victims the emotional heartache of having to describe what happened to them on the U.S.S. Farallon, the 85-foot boat used by Evans as leader of the Sea Scouts.

On Tuesday, Phil Schnayerson, Evans' defense attorney, echoed those thoughts and said his client

"had some people who he had sexual contact with, which was improper, not forceful.

"He had a tragic flaw," Schnayerson said. "The whole thing was tragic from 100 different ways."

Evans was originally charged with six felony counts of child molestation late last year on suspicion of sexual actions on boys younger than 14 years old. But an investigation after the allegations were made revealed

additional victims and a boat filled with pornographic materials.

In the end, Evans was charged with molesting three victims and showing pornographic material to four others.

He had a "tragic flaw"? So...in the language of Uber Liberals, child molestation is merely a "flaw". What's necrophilia, an "interesting quirk"?

These F'in morons...you know why the Heartland of American hates california? Because stories like this are commonplace. City District Attorneys with no guts, offering pleas to sick whackos like this human piece of garbage...can we just fence off Berkely and SanFransicko & give that land to Mexico in exchange for a working Border Fence? Hell, they can have Portland and Seattle too.

The Tragic Flaw here is the fact this old pervert doesn't have a bullet in his brain.

That's what his defense lawyer said, that's the kind of thing defense lawyers everywhere say about their clients. Necrophilia is sick, but I don't think it's as sick as pedophelia.

The prosecutor may have had some good reasons for the plea arrangement-it's not a case with a lot of DNA evidence, by nature. The victims may not make good witnesses-mental health histories, substance abuse issues-guys like this look for victims who might not make good witnesses, and who are particularly vulnerable.

I have confidence that the inmates in whatever prison this scumbag gets sent to will dish out an appropriate level and type of retribution.

    I may be sick:

Schnayerson said that while his client made improper contact with some boys, he helped hundreds of others.

"He had to give up the only thing important to him, which is the Sea Scouts,"
when I think of the hundreds of hours my ex and I spent working with Scouts and then we hear of a creep like this....

Pedophilia will be normalized by the left next. Right now it's a "tragic flaw" next it will be a sickness of some sort - so not the fault of the pedophiles - and then it will be completely normal and acceptable.

As for what will happen to him in prison - that would require the inmates to find out - AND for him to be in general population. given where this happened - they will be very worried about his rights even as they ignore his victims rights. So he'll prolly be very well protected and safely back on the streets in a matter of months.
Stand up for what is right, even if you have to stand alone.

These freaks of nature are a protected class, so this scumbag will have his own private cell. He will be out of jail in 2 years.

    Well, here's a twist:

Eugene Evans sued Berkeley after the city revoked free berthing privileges because the group’s parent organization, the Boy Scouts, bar atheist and gay members. Evans appealed to the California Supreme Court and lost. Pacific Legal Foundation took his case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court which let stand the state supreme court ruling that upheld Berkeley’s decision to deny free slips. During the fight, Evans a was hero of the political right receiving the attention of conservative columnist James J. Kirkpatrick who profiled Evans.
This is bigger than presidential politics. This is a battle for America.

You have a point about some of the posters at DU who defend scum like this, but they do get slammed by other posters for their opinions, too.

I'm a liberal and so are most of my coworkers in Children's Services. None of us ever want to see scum like this get off easy-most of us hope the police have an excuse to shoot the perp before it ever comes to trial.
