    Exclusive

NFL legend Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, CA ... and cops are investigating a shooting ... multiple law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Seau was 43-years-old ... and leaves behind 3 kids and an ex-wife.

Cops are currently at Seau's home -- located in San Diego County -- and were seen talking with a man who was inside the house and appeared distraught....

TMZ is the only one reporting he is dead, I would take it worth a grain of salt unless someone else reports on it, ESPN doesn't even have a post about it nor does anyone else...which is kinda weird

local news is reporting it comfirmed now

It sounds like there is a lot more to this story. After the medical examiner is finished, it would be good to see the actual report.

The 43-year-old linebacking legend shot himself in the chest inside his beachfront home in Oceeanside, Fox 5 San Diego confirmed. Fox Sports confirmed the death with Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood, who said he was told by the city's police chief.

Never heard this name in my life before this afternoon, but I guess that's no surprise!

Go read some of the comments on Yahoo for the story. It will turn your stomach. On his apparent suicide, Dave Duerson of the Bears shot himself the same way last year. His suicide note said he wanted his brain saved so it can be studied in relation to concussions.

There was a local AM station discussing the suicide this morning. One of those discussing it was a doctor that specializes in repetitive concussions and early onset dementia. There may be a lot more to the correlation between football head contact and later in life maladies than we know.

Between steroids and concussions there is a lot yet to learn. That's why I'm so heavily behind the new headgear for HS and younger. There are some with sensors that measure impacts that then transfer to the base computer which keeps a summary record.
